Kimjang is a cultural practice among Koreans where we prepare and share Kimchi in large amounts to make it through the long, cold winter.
Once a year, I do volunteer work with a charitable organization to share Kimchi with neighbors in need.
While it involves the active making food I like that the process allows volunteers to engage in meaningful conversations and share time together.
After the Kimjang process is complete, the Kimchi is shared with a local community distributed among those who may feel marginalized.
Though Kimjang is a demanding task that requires time and effort, thinking about the neighbors who will enjoy the Kimchi makes it all worthwhile.
